SUCCESS ELUDES EURO 2025 HOSTS SWITZERLAND – Their team was beaten 2-1 by Norway in their Women’s Euro opener
Norway’s coach Gemma Grainger said they changed things during halftime to overcome Switzerland in the Women’s Euro 2025 opener at St. Jakobs-Park.
“That’s all credit to the players,” she told reporters after the match that Norway won 2-1 against the hosts.
Norway captain Ada Heger-berg scored just after the break and Switzerland then conceded an own goal. Despite plenty of chances and a penalty that was overturned after a VAR review, the hosts could not fashion another goal.
Norway top their group on three points and take on second-placed Finland, who beat Iceland 1-0 in the tournament’s first game earlier in the day, on Sunday.
The game was Switzerland’s third single-goal defeat to Norway in 2025 but coach Sundhage said they will make things ‘tough’ for Iceland in Sunday’s match.
Speaking about playing at home, player of the match Geraldine Reut-eler said she felt goosebumps even when warming up seeing all the red in the stadium.
