AUSTRALIA & INDIA SIGN URANIUM DEAL – Nations deepen energy partnership
Australia and India have signed a new agreement to export Australian uranium for use in India’s civilian nuclear energy programme.
The deal also expands cooperation in renewable energy, critical minerals and green hydrogen, strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Indian leaders have long sought access to Australia’s uranium reserves as the country works towards its goal of generating 100 gigawatts of nuclear power by 2047. For Australia, the agreement supports efforts to diversify trade beyond its largest trading partner, China.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described India as a “close partner and even closer friend” after finalising the agreement, which builds on a nuclear cooperation pact first signed in 2014.
