BRITAIN TOPS EUROPE’S SPY LEAGUE TABLE – MI6 ranked Europe’s most powerful intelligence agency ahead of French and German rivals
Britain’s foreign intelligence service, MI6, has been ranked as Europe’s most powerful intelligence agency – but shush, don’t tell anyone!
Apparently, MI6 outperformed its French and German counterparts in a new international assessment.
The report placed MI6 at the top of the European rankings, citing its global reach, extensive intelligence-sharing partnerships and close integration with the United States through the Five Eyes alliance.
Experts said Britain’s long-standing investment in human intelligence, cyber capabilities and international operations has enabled MI6 to maintain a leading role in tackling terrorism, espionage and emerging security threats.
“MI6 is frankly the best intelligence organisation in Europe,” said Sir Richard Dearlove, who served as C, the head of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), between 1999 and 2004. “It has historical depth, an unbroken archive that no other European service has that goes back to 1909,” he told reporters
France’s external intelligence service and Germany’s BND were also recognised for their capabilities but were ranked below Britain in terms of operational influence and global effectiveness.
The findings come as European governments increase spending on intelligence and national security in response to growing geopolitical tensions, cyber threats and renewed concerns over state-sponsored espionage.
