BURNHAM MEETS NORWEGIAN PM – Leaders discuss European security, defence investment and West Bank settlements
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has met his Norwegian counterpart, Jonas (Stura) Støre, in Liverpool for talks on European security, defence investment and the situation in the West Bank.
Støre described Britain as “key” to Europe’s efforts to take greater responsibility for its own security, saying the two countries’ futures were closely linked.
The leaders also discussed developments in the Middle East, including Israeli settlements in the West Bank, alongside wider defence cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting comes amid growing calls for closer European security cooperation. Earlier this month, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen backed a proposed European Security Council involving the EU, UK, Norway, Ukraine and Canada.
