FRANCE PM URGES PARTIAL CURFEWS AFTER RIOTS – Prime Minister calls for night-time restrictions in protest-hit areas
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on Monday (October 19) he had asked some local municipalities to impose partial curfews following violent protests across the nation during the weekend.
Following an inter-ministerial meeting at the French interior ministry, Lecornu addressed concerns over the unrest, which he insisted remained largely confined to urban areas.
Lecornu also announced a focused judicial response to address looting, committing “massive” resources to identify perpetrators via social media and surveillance footage.
Highlighting efforts to mitigate economic damage, Lecornu also unveiled immediate measures to assist businesses and protect employment.
