TRUMP SIGNS BILL ENDING PARTIAL SHUTDOWN – Shutdown ends as Trump signs stopgap funding deal
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a major spending bill into law, ending a partial federal government shutdown that began last Saturday.
The legislation funds most government departments — including defence, health, labour, education and housing — through the end of the fiscal year, and temporarily extends funding for the Department of Homeland Security until February 13.
Funding briefly lapsed after lawmakers failed to reach a full agreement, but key services continued operating with minimal disruption.
The measures were approved by the Senate with broad bipartisan support and passed the House earlier on Tuesday in a close 217-214 vote.
Negotiations over immigration policy remain unresolved. Democrats are pushing for new limits on enforcement after recent deadly incidents involving federal agents, and lawmakers now have until mid-February to reach an agreement before DHS funding expires again.
