EU URGES HUNGARY TO LIFT RUSSIA BLOCK – Ministers press Hungary to back new sanctions on Russia
European Union foreign ministers are urging Hungary to reconsider its decision to block the bloc’s next sanctions package against Russia.
Johann Wadephul said talks will continue in both Brussels and Budapest to persuade Hungary to change course.
Kaja Kallas warned ministers are unlikely to reach an agreement on the sanctions package, citing continued resistance from Hungary.
Hungary says it is withholding support in response to the disruption of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, which serves refineries in Hungary and Slovakia.
Shipments have been halted since January after a reported drone strike damaged pipeline equipment in western Ukraine.
Hungary and Slovakia blame Kyiv for the prolonged outage, as divisions deepen within the EU over how to respond.
