‘A PROBLEM FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD’ – Israel’s UN ambassador on the Strait of Hormuz
Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said Monday the closing of the Strait of Hormuz is a problem for the entire world, not just Israel and the United States.
Danon said Israel expects greater global support on the Strait of Hormuz. Danon made the remarks while speaking to reporters at U.N. headquarters.
He praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership and said Israel would do “whatever is necessary” to support U.S. efforts. He added that countries that remain silent in the face of such threats would eventually face the consequences themselves.
Asked whether Israel had ruled out sending its navy to the Strait of Hormuz, Danon said: “I didn’t rule out anything.” Turning to Lebanon, Danon said diplomacy could only work if Hezbollah’s military capabilities were weakened first.
He said the Lebanese government had failed to take sufficient action to stop Hezbollah and called on Beirut to deploy the Lebanese army to the south and ensure Hezbollah was removed from the area.
Danon said that would allow residents on both sides of the border to return home safely.
