RUSSIA UKRAINE WAR GRINDS ON AMID HEAVY LOSSES – Casualties mount on both sides as intensified strikes and stalled frontlines define conflict
The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to grind on with no decisive breakthrough, as both sides suffer mounting losses and intensify long-range strikes.
Recent large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks have killed at least 17 people in some of the deadliest strikes of 2026 so far, hitting multiple Ukrainian cities including Kyiv and Odesa.
On the battlefield, the conflict has become a war of attrition, with frontlines largely static despite sustained offensives and counter-attacks. Estimates suggest Russian forces have suffered over 1.3 million total casualties since the full-scale invasion began, including killed and wounded, according to Ukrainian and Western assessments. Overall, combined military casualties on both sides are believed to be approaching two million, making it Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.
Despite these losses, Russia continues to press forward with incremental gains, while Ukraine increasingly relies on drone warfare, and mid to long-range drone strikes to offset manpower disadvantages.
Diplomatic efforts remain stalled, with no clear pathway to a ceasefire as both sides prepare for a prolonged conflict. The war or as the Russians call it the “Special Military Opperation”, has been progressing now for 4 years and 2 months.
