Keir Starmer has told Labour councillors and supporters they “blew the doors off” as he celebrated victory in Medway, which the party won for the first time this morning. He said Labour “are having fantastic results across…
SUDAN ARMY IS PREPARED TO CEASE FIGHTING “IMMEDIATELY” – On condition that the Rapid Support Forces lay down arms first Sudan’s army is prepared to cease fighting “immediately” should the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) lay down arms first, Sudan’s ambassador to Ethiopia said during a press conference in Addis Ababa. Despite multiple ceasefire declarations, the two sides appeared to be battling for control of territory in the capital Khartoum ahead of proposed talks, though the leaders of both factions have shown little public willingness to negotiate after more than two weeks of fighting. The Sudanese army on Thursday…

NATO is reportedly planning to open a liaison office in Tokyo, the first in the Asia-Pacific region, as it moves to deepen ties with Asia-Pacific nations amid increasing concerns over the threat of China’s communist regime. Nikkei Asia reported that the regional office would allow the military alliance to conduct consultations with its key Asia-Pacific partners (AP4)—Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea—and act as a point of contact with other nations in the region. The proposed plan is to open a one-person office in Tokyo next year. However, negotiations about whether the office will be provided by Japan or funded…

On 70 minutes the inevitable occurred: Erling Haaland stampeded forward, took Jack Grealish’s delivery and, with Lukasz Fabianski advancing, the goalscoring phenomenon feathered a spiralling lob over West Ham’s goalkeeper for a record Premier League goal No 35. It eclipsed the tallies of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole and, more vitally, doubled Manchester City’s lead against a doughty West Ham and by the final whistle it was 3-0: Pep Guardiola’s blue machine were on top again with five matches remaining in the quest to emulate Manchester United and claim a hat-trick of titles. A corner was the result, again from the left.…

Cordons were put in place after the man was also found to be in possession of a suspicious bag, the force added. Roads have now reopened and…
Sam Allardyce has been confirmed as the Leeds manager for the remaining four games of the season, replacing Javi Gracia, who has been sacked after less than three months. A heavily incentivised deal could earn the 68-year-old £3m if he guides the team clear of relegation. Allardyce – who previously worked with the Leeds chief executive, Angus Kinnear, at West Ham – arrives with the club out of the relegation zone on goal difference and facing tough fixtures comprising trips to Manchester City and West Ham and home matches against Newcastle and Tottenham. Leeds have taken one point from their…
