Tea Party Patriots Action filed a federal complaint against the judge who approved the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida home. “Judge [Bruce] Reinhart has a conflict of interest and a pattern and history of hostility to President Trump,” said the filing (pdf). The lawsuit then listed several examples including purported Facebook posts that show Reinhart had criticized Trump while praising the late Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.). Reinhart also reportedly donated to former President Barack Obama and to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush when he was running against Trump in 2015, the lawsuit said, citing publicly available reports. The lawsuit seeks…
Manchester City face Chelsea and Manchester United will host Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup. The two ties were among the highlights of an appealing draw for the next stage of the competition featuring seven all-Premier League ties. Arsenal v Brighton, Nottingham Forest v Tottenham and Wolves v Leeds were also among the stand-out games, with holders Liverpool drawn at home to League One Derby. Everton will travel to Bournemouth and Newcastle, who saw off League Two Tranmere on Wednesday, will host Crystal Palace in the other all top-flight encounters. West Ham were handed a testing…
Shell has agreed to pay half a million pounds for overcharging thousands of prepayment meter customers on default tariffs over the past three years. The energy giant’s consumer arm, Shell Energy Retail, will refund and compensate 11,275 customers after it discovered that it had sent the wrong rates to users’ meters. It meant that those customers were forced to pay more than allowed under the regulator’s price cap at various times since January 2019. Prepayment meter users already pay for their energy at a higher rate and include some of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable households. Shell has agreed to automatically…
Tory leadership contender Rishi Sunak says he “wasn’t allowed to talk about the trade-off” of lockdowns during earlier phases of the pandemic, criticising Government public health interventions and scientific advisors. Mr Sunak said one of the Government’s biggest mistakes was giving too much power to scientists and claimed the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) edited its minutes to hide dissenting opinions. The former chancellor made the statements in an interview with the Spectator magazine. “We shouldn’t have empowered the scientists in the way we did,” he is quoted as saying. “And you have to acknowledge trade-offs from the…
U.S. government officials haven’t presented sufficient evidence to keep a key document related to the search warrant executed at former President Donald Trump’s home shielded from the public, a federal judge ruled on Aug. 22. Officials have claimed that an affidavit that convinced U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart to approve the warrant needs extensive redactions to protect FBI agents and witnesses, as well as the ongoing investigation into Trump. The redactions would leave “very little—nothing of substance,” Jay Bratt, chief of the Department of Justice’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, told Reinhart during a recent hearing. The government has met its burden of showing that its interests…
Britain’s independent brewers have urged ministers to step in to save the sector, as research revealed more than 70% of pubs do not expect to survive the winter if nothing is done to ease energy costs. In a letter to the chancellor, Nadhim Zahawi, independent brewers on Tuesday called for immediate government intervention, warning a once thriving cottage industry was now facing “grave uncertainty”. They said the impact of surging energy bills was being compounded by a fall in sales as households seek to save money, shortages of equipment such as kegs, cans and CO2 gas, and a poor hop harvest…
In the Carabao Cup Everton certainly enjoy being beside the sea: twice in two years in this competition they have departed the Lancashire coast with victory over Fleetwood Town. This win was far harder than the 5-2 rout of 2020 when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge, as the 14th-ranked League One team went close to proving the banana skin in waiting they appeared. But Everton’s class, as it should, prevailed and Frank Lampard can be grateful for a first win of the campaign following an insipid start in the Premier League that has yielded a solitary point from the nine available.…
The Chinese regime leveraged its propaganda in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic to spread its totalitarian ideologies to the West, according to former Hong Kong Apple Daily columnist Simon Lee. “When COVID started, China [was] concerned only on one thing—how can they capitalize on this crisis to show the world that China’s system is superior to the rest of the world,” Lee recently told EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders” program. Lee singled out how the regime highlighted its capability to build a quarantine hospital in a week, “then they propagandized the achievement as ‘this is the Chinese efficiency.’” The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)…
Twitter Restores Account of UK Doctor Skeptical of COVID-19 Vaccines After Permanently Suspending It
Twitter on Tuesday restored the account of a British doctor known for questioning the efficacy and safety of COVID-19 vaccines after telling her the account had been “permanently suspended due to multiple or repeat” rule violations. Dr. Clare Craig, a diagnostic pathologist who has more than 145,000 followers on Twitter, had her account suspended on Sunday without getting an explanation. After she appealed the suspension, Twitter told her on Tuesday that the account had been permanently suspended, hours before restoring it, blaming the incident on a system that “find[s] and remove[s] multiple automated spam accounts in bulk.” Speaking to The Epoch Times on Tuesday afternoon, Craig…
The New Zealand (NZ) government has agreed to acquire 100 percent of Kiwi Group Holdings (KGH), the owner of Kiwibank, for $2.1 billion (US$1.3 billion). KGH has operated under three Crown-owned entities—NZ Post, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), and the NZ Super Fund. Finance Minister Grant Robertson said that while the Crown essentially had full ownership of Kiwibank through the three entities, NZ Post and ACC had sought to withdraw as shareholders due to a divergence in long-term investment plans. Matt Whineray, the chief executive of NZ Super Fund, revealed the company had considered buying some or all of NZ Post’s stake…
