Two Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are asking Amazon to answer to allegations of “systemic viewpoint-based discrimination” against conservative viewpoints. In a letter to current Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Ken Buck (R-Colo.) requested that the prominent cloud services provider turn over documents and information on its alleged censorship activities. “Big Tech, including Amazon, is engaged in systematic viewpoint-based discrimination. In the unfortunate phenomenon of ‘cancel culture,’ Amazon plays a leading role in silencing and censoring the political speech of conservative Americans,” the lawmakers wrote. They added, “In just the last several months, Amazon has exhibited a pattern of curtailing, censoring, and removing…

It doesn’t take much for the nation’s voters to become concerned that President Biden, the oldest new chief executive at 78 years old, might not be up for the job. The latest proof: His resistance to holding a full-blown press conference now 49 days into his presidency has half the country worried. In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey of likely voters, 50% said they are not confident that “Joe Biden is physically and mentally up to the job of being president of the United States.” Another 48% have confidence in Biden, though only 34% were “very confident” that he was up to the job.…

China’s rubberstamp legislature on Thursday approved a draft decision to change Hong Kong’s electoral system, making it virtually impossible for the opposition to affect outcomes of elections. On the last day of the annual plenum of the National People’s Congress (NPC), a total of 2,895 delegates voted in favor of the electoral overhaul with zero against and one abstention. The electoral reforms will further reduce democratic representation in the former British colony and introduce a mechanism to vet politicians’ loyalty to the Chinese regime and make sure only so-called “patriots” are allowed to rule Hong Kong. British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called the move “the…

Britain’s Marks & Spencer said on Thursday it would launch a wave of guest clothing brands on its website this spring, including Hobbs, White Stuff, Joules and Sloggi, in bid to accelerate online growth. The UK’s clothing sector has been hammered by COVID-19 lockdowns, forcing retailers to rely on online channels. M&S Chief Executive Steve Rowe said last year the group, still Britain’s biggest clothing retailer by value, was shifting strategy and would sell other brands to broaden its appeal. In September, it partnered online with Nobody’s Child and has also collaborated with Early Learning Centre. In January, M&S purchased…

Europe remains Liverpool’s sanctuary. Unrecognisable in their defence of the Premier League title, there was something strikingly familiar about Liverpool on the Champions League stage as Fabinho commanded central midfield, Mohamed Salah proved decisive and a beaming smile returned to Jürgen Klopp’s face. RB Leipzig, the second-best team in Germany, were brushed aside en route to the quarter-finals. Time, and home form at Anfield rather than the Puskas Arena in Budapest, will tell whether this was the night the Premier League champions rediscovered the self-belief and spark they have mislaid this season. Their confidence unmistakably increased during an assured display against…

The Government unlawfully failed to publish details of more than 500 coronavirus-related contracts within the required time, the High Court has said. The Good Law Project took legal action against the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for its “wholesale failure” to disclose details of contracts agreed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government is required by law to publish a “contract award notice” within 30 days of the award of any contracts for public goods or services worth more than £120,000. At a hearing last month, the Good Law Project argued there had been a “dismal” failure by the DHSC to comply with…

Perhaps we should have known Borussia Dortmund would make life tough for themselves. Two late goals from Youssef En-Nesyri, the second deep into injury time, offered Sevilla brief hope of a remarkable resurrection. But ultimately it was the boot of Erling Braut Haaland that decided this tie, his two goals – to add to a pair in the first leg – upending a game that for long periods seemed to be tilting back towards the visitors. Is there a surer thing in European football right now? Certainly there was an inevitability to Haaland’s contributions: the first coming after an opening half-hour utterly…

The emergency unit was set up at Harrogate’s Convention Centre and opened by Captain Sir Tom Moore in April. It was one of seven built in England in 2020 to try and prevent hospitals becoming overwhelmed during the pandemic. The NHS said it would offer testing while it was being wound back. In a statement, the NHS thanked its staff and partners “who worked so hard to set the Nightingales up so swiftly”. “Since the very early days of the pandemic the Nightingale hospitals have been on hand as the ultimate insurance policy in case existing hospital capacity was overwhelmed,” the statement…
