Turkey unveiled its first fully domestically produced car, saying it aimed to eventually produce up to 175,000 a year of the electric vehicle in a project expected to cost 22 billion lira ($3.7 billion) over 13 years. Turkey is already a big exporter to Europe of cars made domestically by firms such as Ford, Fiat Chrysler, Renault, Toyota and Hyundai. The…

Britain’s Big Ben bell in parliament’s landmark clock tower will ring at midnight on New Year’s Eve, marking the start of a year for the first time since its new face was revealed from under scaffolding halfway through restoration work. The work has seen the 96-metre-tall Elizabeth Tower, one of the most photographed buildings in Britain, enveloped in scaffolding as the four clock dials are reglazed, ironwork repainted and intricately carved stonework cleaned and repaired. In March, part of the scaffolding was removed, showing that the clock’s once black numerals and hands have been repainted blue, in line with what…
Rampant Liverpool moved 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League after Roberto Firmino struck twice in an emphatic 4-0 win at second-placed Leicester City. With Liverpool in total control throughout, it was a performance that suggested the title race is all but over at the half-way stage, but afterwards manager Juergen Klopp sought to play down suggestions the title was already theirs. The victory was inspired in large part by attacking right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who created three goals and scored one himself. Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has been vocal in his criticism of his team’s intense schedule…
Sriracha Hot Chilli sauce has been recalled in Australia and New Zealand over fears bottles could “explode” when opened. The product is sold widely in supermarkets and Asian grocery stores across Australia and New Zealand. Made from chilies, vinegar, and garlic, the red sauce has become popular worldwide and is often referred to as “hipster Tabasco”. The recall applies to 502ml and 828ml sized bottles with a best…

Shannon Lee’s Bruce Lee Enterprises alleges Real Kungfu has used the image in its logo without permission. The firm wants the fast-food chain to immediately remove the image, and is reportedly seeking $30m (£23.1m) in compensation. The restaurant argues local authorities approved its use of the logo. The image depicts a dark-haired man in a martial arts pose. “The Real Kungfu chain’s logo is one that the company had applied for and obtained…
Black Friday discounts and bad weather have been blamed for a decline in Boxing Day shoppers, with retail analysts reporting a fall in the number of people heading for the sales. Springboard, which analyses customer activity in stores, said footfall up until midday had seen the largest decline since 2010, dropping by 10.6%. It said Boxing Day was becoming less important as a trading day. But there were still queues for some shops from as early as 04:30 GMT. The footfall figures were the largest decline of any year since data was first published by Springboard 10 years ago. The…
