An accident in treacherous conditions has closed the M1 and 24,000 homes are without power after overnight snowstorms hit the UK. A lorry crash has closed all three lanes of the M1 southbound prior to junction 19, with Leicestershire Police telling Sky News it was likely caused by the wintry conditions. The UK car industry has reported its biggest monthly fall in domestic demand for over six years, with the Government squarely in the firing line. The competition regulator has formally cleared Tesco’s £3.7bn deal to buy wholesaler Booker, declaring it has no concerns following an in-depth review. The Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA’s) decision meant the proposed tie-up, first announced in January, was now able to proceed to shareholder votes.
