Inflation jumped unexpectedly to 2.7% in August, its highest level in six months, shocking economists that had expected a drop. Summer season transport prices contributed most heavily to the hike, as services rose 4.6% last month, driven by a 13.5% rise in air ticket prices and a 17.2% jump in sea fares, including international ferry routes.Motorists also faced higher fuel costs last month, with petrol up by 1.4p per litre on the month to 128.6p per litre. A doctor who appeared on a dating show has been charged with drugging and sexually assaulting two women with his girlfriend – and police suspect there may be many more victims. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is referring the proposed merger between Sainsbury’s and Asda for a further “in-depth investigation”. Drinks spiking has more than doubled in three years, according to figures from UK police forces. The results, from a series of Freedom of Information requests, show a 108% increase since 2015 in the number of reports to police forces, which include both the words “drink” and “spiking” or “lacing”.The Met Police in London recorded the most cases in 2017 with 179 reports.This was up 74% from 2015 when 103 reports of drinks spiking were recorded.In total there were 1,039 cases recorded by the forces which responded.But victims of spiking attacks have told Sky News they believe incidents are vastly…
