Russia has said new sanctions imposed by the US over the Salisbury poisoning are “categorically unacceptable”. The new owner of Homebase will unveil plans to close about a quarter of its stores next week, threatening more than 1,000 jobs. The body of midwife Samantha Eastwood was found in a shallow grave wrapped in a duvet cover with tape around her eyes and face, a court has heard. The number of people killed in the aftermath of a powerful earthquake in Indonesia has risen to 131. British Gas customers will see a price hike for the second time this year as the UK’s biggest supplier of energy said bills would increase by £44 on average. Six men have been found guilty of a conspiracy to smuggle migrants across the English Channel by boat in 2016. A German mother and her partner have been jailed for repeatedly raping the woman’s young son and selling him for sex online.
