BRITISH MEN PLAN ‘DAD STRIKE’ FOR JUNE 11- To Protest for more Paternity Leave
British fathers are being urged to join the planned “Dad strike” to protest about the UK’s statutory paternity leave, which is reportedly said to be the least generous in Europe.
The protest planned for 11 June, is set to take place outside the Department for Business and Trade in London in a bid to engage the government to re-evaluate leave for dads.
Ministers have faced scrutiny after it was established that the right to paternity leave would not include the right to statutory pay under the government’s employment rights bill.
UK paternity leave, at £187.18 a week, is reportedly the lowest statutory offer in Europe. It accounts for 1.9% of all government spending on parental leave, with the rest spent on maternity leave. The Fatherhood Institute, is also campaigning for 6 weeks paid leave for a father, during the first year of the birth of a child.
