EU PLEDGES €90B LOAN FOR UKRAINE – Bloc backs Kyiv’s war effort and membership path
European Union leaders say they will deliver a €90 billion loan to Ukraine “one way or another,” as support for Kyiv intensifies on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
Speaking in Kyiv, Ursula von der Leyen announced an additional €920 million winter energy package for 2026–27 and said Ukraine’s path to EU membership is “a very clear yes,” adding the country is “on a good way.”
She also said the bloc is close to approving its 20th sanctions package, coordinated with G7 partners, aimed at weakening Moscow’s war economy.
Meanwhile, European Council President António Costa urged Russia to come to the negotiating table “in a serious way,” saying Ukraine has held firm despite intensified attacks and that significant progress on its EU accession could lie ahead.
