EUROPEAN COUNCIL APPROVES PAYMENT OF 1.8 BLN EUROS – This 5th regular disbursement of financial support to Ukraine totaling over €1.8 billion
The European Council has authorised the fifth regular disbursement of financial support to Ukraine — worth more than one-point-eight billion euros.
The payment forms part of the European Union’s wider assistance mechanism — designed to support Ukraine’s stability, recovery and administration in the midst of the ongoing war.
Brussels says the funding will reinforce macro-financial stability — and help ensure the continued functioning of Ukraine’s public institutions.
The money is being channelled through the “Ukraine Facility” — which came into force in March last year — and provides up to fifty billion euros in grants and loans between now and 2027.
Officials say part of this latest tranche includes funds that were held back in the previous round.
They say Ukraine has now completed all the steps required — including an outstanding benchmark from the last disbursement — enabling the full amount to be released.
