GERMANY’S SOLIDARITY FOR ISRAEL IS UNCHANGED – Germany will not “supply weapons in a conflict being resolved only by military means.
Germany’s solidarity with Israel remains unchanged despite last week’s decision to halt military exports, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told public broadcaster ARD.
In an interview, Merz said Germany would not “supply weapons in a conflict that is being attempted to be resolved exclusively by military means.”
Merz said his government’s decision to stop the shipments was in response to the “surprise” announcement by Israel to once again escalate the military conflict in the Gaza Strip.”
“Where are these people supposed to go?” Merz asked, adding, “We cannot do that. We are not doing that, and I will not do that either.”
Hours later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had no choice but to “complete the job” and defeat Hamas, given the Palestinian group’s refusal to lay down its arms.
