MADAGASCAR NAMES NEW PRIME MINISTER- President Andry Rajoelina names Army General Ruphin Fortunat Zafisambo as Prime Minister
Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina named army General Ruphin Fortunat Zafisambo as prime minister, a week after dissolving the government.
Zafisambo replaced Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, who was dismissed as part of the president’s move. The general was the director of the military cabinet in the prime minister’s office until this appointment.
Ahead of naming him, Rajoelina said “We will proceed with the appointment of the Prime Minister, as proposed by the Members of Parliament, and thus appoint a Prime Minister who can restore public order and the confidence of the people”.
Zafisambo’s top priority would be to restore electricity and water supply. Rajoelina who fired his cabinet last week, said in a speech that he was ready to listen to the protesters’ grievances. A spokesperson for Rajoelina’s office has stated thatthe protest movement was being “exploited by political actors who are seeking to destabilise the country”
