MUSETTI MARCHES PAST DE MINAUR IN MADRID – The win sees the 23-year-old Italian improve his record on clay to 17-3 since July 2024
Lorenzo Musetti marched past sixth seed Alex de Minaur into the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open.
Musetti wrapped-up the victory in just over an hour, breaking the Australian three times while not once facing break point on his own serve.
The win sees the 23-year-old Italian improve his record on clay to 17-3 since July 2024 and also guarantees that he will rise inside the world top 10 for the first time in his career when the ATP rankings are updated next week.
Awaiting Musetti in the last eight is Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo who continued his fairytale run at the Caja Magica with a comeback win over 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Diallo denied Bulgaria’s Dimitrov three match points in a second set tiebreak before prevailing 5-7 7-6(7) 6-4 to reach maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final.
