NIGEL FARAGE’S REFORM UK PARTY WINS IN LOCAL UK ELECTION – Claimed a by-election victory over Labour in Runcorn and Helsby
Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party won a parliamentary seat in northwest England on Friday (May 2)in a parliamentary by-election in the country’s history.
Reform’s Sarah Pochin beat Labour’s candidate by six votes. Runcorn and Helsby had previously been a Labour seat with the party winning more than half the area’s votes in last year’s national election.
Farage said Sarah Pochin’s victory in the Cheshire constituency marked a significant milestone for the party after he promised to ‘smash the two-party system’.
The Reform UK party’s victory underlines how Britain’s political landscape has fractured since the general election. Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer won one of the largest parliamentary majorities in British history last year.
Reform are hopeful of securing more major victories today after winning the Greater Lincolnshire mayoralty and dozens of council seats across England.
Reform, founded as the Brexit Party in 2018, has seen a surge in its support over recent months, overtaking Britain’s two main parties in some opinion polls.
