PRESIDENT TRUMP ON IRAN’S LEADERSHIP – ‘They are negotiating, but they’re afraid to say it’
U.S. President Donald Trump says Iran is quietly negotiating with his administration, despite publicly denying it.
Speaking at a Republican fundraising event in Washington, Trump claimed Iranian leaders are “afraid to say it,” suggesting they fear both internal backlash and potential U.S. military action.
But Iran has pushed back on those claims.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran is reviewing a U.S. proposal to end the conflict in the Gulf, but insists there are no plans to enter formal negotiations over the widening crisis in the Middle East.
His comments indicate a more nuanced position, signalling that while Iran is open to a resolution, any talks would depend on specific conditions being met.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, as diplomatic uncertainty continues to shape the trajectory of the conflict.
