PRIME MINISTER STARMER MEETS WITH CANADIAN PM CARNEY – First bilateral meeting to discuss trade and security
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Parliament on Sunday (June 15), in what was Carney’s first bilateral meeting ahead of the Group of Seven meetings, being held in Canada.
Group of Seven leaders gather starting on Sunday (June 15) in the Canadian Rockies amid growing splits with the United States over foreign policy and trade, with host Canada striving to avoid clashes with President Donald Trump.
While Prime Minister Mark Carney says his priorities are strengthening peace and security, building critical mineral supply chains and creating jobs, issues such as U.S. tariffs and the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are expected to feature heavily.
Starmer said the heads of state would also discuss the unrest in the Middle East.
