RAIL WORKER HAILED AS HERO – Rail worker Samir Zitouni named as man who intervened during mass stabbing on LNER service
British Transport Police have named the rail worker who intervened during Saturday’s mass stabbing on an LNER train — as 48-year-old Samir Zitouni.
He remains critically unwell — but stable — in hospital.
Police say Mr Zitouni placed himself directly in harm’s way to protect passengers, including a young girl, during the attack on the Doncaster to King’s Cross service.
Officers say his actions are believed to have prevented further serious injury, and potentially saved multiple lives.
A 32-year-old man — Anthony Williams, of no fixed abode — has now been charged with ten counts of attempted murder relating to the incident, and a further count linked to a separate stabbing in London earlier the same day.
Mr Zitouni has worked for LNER for more than two decades.
Tonight, LNER’s Managing Director has described his actions as “incredibly brave” — adding that the company remains deeply proud of him, and of the colleagues who also acted to protect the public.
In a statement, Mr Zitouni’s family say they are “immensely proud” of his courage, and have thanked the public for the many messages of support they have received.
As detectives continue their investigation — Mr Zitouni is being widely praised as the man who stepped forward to defend others… at great personal cost.
