SOUTH KOREA TO SEND TEAM TO CAMBODIA –Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina will lead the team to Cambodia
The South Korean government will send a joint response team today to help its nationals who have been lured into working at online and phone scam centres in Cambodia.
Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina will lead the team to Cambodia to look for a resolution to the involvement of South Koreans in what had become a “complex” scam industry based in the Southeast Asian country, South Korea’s National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said.
More than 1,000 South Koreans are believed to be among about 200,000 people of various nationalities involved in scam rings operating in Cambodia that target victims around the world, Wi told reporters.
South Korea’s government has scrambled into action following the death of a student in Cambodia. A college student was tortured to death in Cambodia in August in a case linked to an employment scam, according to South Korean media.
