TRUMP WAS NOT INFORMED OF UKRAINE DRONE ATTACKS IN ADVANCE – Operation code-named “Spider’s Web” to attack Russian nuclear-capable long-range bomber planes
The White House says President Trump was not briefed in advance on Ukraine’s latest drone attacks inside Russia.
On Sunday, June 1, Ukraine launched 117 drones in a bold operation called “Spider’s Web.” The targets were airfields housing Russia’s nuclear-capable bomber fleet in Siberia and the far north.
Ukrainian officials say more than 40 aircraft were damaged or destroyed, including Tu-95 “Bear” and Tu-160 “Blackjack” bombers, as well as an A-50 airborne radar jet, a £230 million command-and-control aircraft seen as critical to Russia’s air defence. Only a few remain in service.
The drones used were small, hand-launched FPV units, smuggled into Russia and deployed from mobile sheds and trucks. The operation took 18 months to plan and pulled off a major blow at a relatively low cost.
Footage shows heavy damage at Olenya and Belaya bases, with supersonic bombers reduced to fireballs.
Military analysts say it’s one of the most significant airbase strikes of the war, exposing major flaws in Russian defences and forcing the Kremlin to consider how it will retaliate.
Some fear this could push Putin toward escalating threats, including renewed nuclear rhetoric.
