UK COUPLE FREED BY TALIBAN ARRIVE DOHA-Britain’s special envoy to Afghanistan expressed gratitude to Qatar for the support
A UK couple who was detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan in February have been released and flown to Doha following Qatari mediation.
Barbie and Peter Reynolds, whose family had voiced serious concerns over their health and their ability to survive Taliban custody, were detained by the group’s interior ministry on February 1. Qatar had been in talks with Taliban authorities for several months, in coordination with the British government and the couple’s family, to secure their release, the official said.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, who said the couple have completed their time,added that their legal process has been completed for their return to their homeland,”.
Britain’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Richard Lindsay, expressed his gratitude to Qatar for the support it provided in securing the Reynolds’ release, and “for the way in which they have been treated and looked after in the last few months”
