UTAH GOVERNOR APPEALS FOR PUBLIC HELP – FBI shares footage of suspect
Utah Governor Spencer Cox appealed for public help in the search for the shooter of influential conservative activist Charlie Kirk as the FBI shared new footage of the suspect on Thursday (September 11).
Speaking at a news conference, Cox said investigators had received over 7,000 tips from the public and had conducted over 200 interviews since the shooting on Wednesday. “The FBI hasn’t received this many digital media tips from the public since the Boston Marathon bombing.”
The shooter has not been publicly identified, though lawmakers, commentators and online sleuths have already filled social media and message boards with speculation and blame-casting about the killer’s ideology. FBI Director Kash Patel also appeared at the news briefing, but did not speak.
Cox warned that a “tremendous” amount of disinformation was circulating online. “I would encourage you to ignore those, to turn off those streams and to spend a little more time with our families.”
