UK HITS RUSSIA WITH NEW SANCTIONS – Measures target shadow fleet, finance networks and military suppliers
The UK has announced 70 new sanctions against Russia, targeting its shadow oil fleet, military procurement networks and financial channels used to bypass existing restrictions.
The measures, unveiled during the G7 summit, include sanctions on more than 20 oil tankers, shipping companies and insurers accused of helping Moscow continue exporting energy and funding its war in Ukraine.
The government has also targeted a Russian military intelligence procurement network accused of acquiring Western technology for the Kremlin’s armed forces, sanctioning several companies and individuals linked to the operation.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the sanctions are designed to strike at the vessels, money and people sustaining Russia’s war economy, adding that Britain and its allies will continue increasing pressure on President Vladimir Putin until the conflict ends.
