ARGENTINA’S MILEI WINS MIDTERM ELECTION – President Javier Milei vows more reforms

Argentina’s President Javier Milei on Sunday (October 26) said his party’s big victory in the nation’s midterm elections marked a turning point and vowed to pursue reforms his government still considers necessary.

Milei after the results stated that Argentina has passed through a turning point. Adding that voters had shown their desire to irreversibly change the path forward for South America’s economy.

He invited the country’s governors to discuss parliamentary agreements, and said dozens of senators and deputies from other parties would potentially reach agreements with his administration.

Milei’s party cruised to victory in midterm legislative elections as voters backed his free-market reforms and deep austerity measures, providing a mandate for him to push forward with his overhaul of the economy.

The president’s party, La Libertad Avanza, scored 41.5% of the vote in Buenos Aires province compared with 40.8% for the Peronist coalition, according to official results. 

Nationwide, La Libertad Avanza got 64 seats in the House of Deputies, up from 37, according to government figures.
