Shell is said to be reconsidering its decision to pull out of a proposed oil field off the coast of Scotland as Britain tries to shore up its energy security while Putin’s invasion of Ukraine sends fuel prices soaring and experts warned that the UK cost of living crisis ‘hasn’t arrived yet’ because inflation has higher to go. Work on the proposed Cambo oilfield development off the west coast of Shetland was paused in December after the energy company decided to withdraw from the project, concluding the economic case for investment was ‘not strong enough’. Shell made the decision last year to withdraw when the price…

Liverpool and Manchester City fans have united in their condemnation of the “shambolic” travel arrangements for their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley next month. Leading supporters groups from both clubs said they were appalled as the Football Association began liaising with Network Rail after it emerged no direct trains to London from Manchester and Merseyside are scheduled over the Easter weekend. Engineering work dictates that trains from Liverpool Lime Street will terminate at Rugby and those from Manchester Piccadilly at Milton Keynes, forcing fans to either travel by road, air or contemplate circuitous cross-country rail journeys that make day-return trips virtually impossible. Avanti West Coast on…

His first visit as Barcelona’s coach, the man entrusted with their revival, saw a run of five consecutive clásico defeats come to a close with an astonishing 4-0 victory at their greatest rivals. An ideologue committed to his footballing faith, he always believed but it still wasn’t supposed to be this good this soon. Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and one each…

Priti Patel’s plans to process asylum seekers abroad are facing a Conservative rebellion next week, with MPs calling the proposal “clearly ridiculous” ahead of a vote on the nationality and borders bill. Amendments circulated among senior Tories include attempts to scupper government plans to set up offshoring centres and a proposal to instead create a global resettlement scheme to accept 10,000 people a year from war-torn regions. Rebels believe they could gather the support of dozens of MPs on Tuesday, when the controversial bill returns to the Commons, after a softening in attitudes in the wake of the Ukrainian refugee crisis. They remain…
