How do you kill that which cannot be killed? How do you stop the white-shirted spectre from rising once again as a Champions League semi-final reaches its decisive final moments? Just a thought. But sticking the ball in the net might be a start. On a glorious, occasionally excruciating night at Stamford Bridge Chelsea simply ran right through Real Madrid, with N’Golo Kanté a commanding, decisive presence. Frankly they should have won this game 6-0. Madrid looked gone after 20 minutes, an ageless team grown old, unable to cope with Chelsea’s power and spring. Instead the greatest point of tension was Chelsea’s…

FRANCE’s threat to turn off Jersey’s electricity is a blatant French attempt to intimidate the UK, more in keeping with the approach of Vladimir Putin’s Russia than with a western democracy, a Tory MP has said. And while David Jones welcomed Boris Johnson’s decision to send Royal Navy vessels to the Channel Islands, he also suggested French President Emmanuel Macron may use the crisis to bolster his credentials with one eye on next year’s election. The row exploded after remarks by Annick Girardin in France’s National Assembly. Mrs Girardin said she was “disgusted” that Jersey had issued 41 licences with unilaterally imposed conditions, including the…

EUROCRATS have accused Britain of being in breach of the Brexit trade deal in a further escalation in the row over fishing rights. The European Commission said the new restrictions on trawlermen introduced by Jersey contravene the terms of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Under the post-Brexit rules, EU vessels are required to secure licences to operate in the waters off the coast of the Channel island. EU officials have thrown their weight behind France’s threat to plunge the isle into darkness by cutting its power supply. A Commission spokeswoman said: “Any addition of new specific conditions to these…

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has admitted Manchester United fans’ disgruntlement with the Glazers is a difficult situation for him and he is concerned it could disrupt his team’s progress. The manager said the behaviour of some fans at Sunday’s protests went too far and that supporters had to conduct themselves in a “civilised manner”. Fan unhappiness at the Glazers over loading debt on to the club was heightened by the joining of the now defunct European Super League. There is also upset at a lack of communication during their 16-year ownership. Solskjær was asked whether one of the Glazers should directly speak with supporters. “It’s…

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a challenge filed by an Arizona resident who had sought to prove claims of election fraud during the Nov. 3 election in her state. The nine justices, without comment, dismissed (pdf) a request by Pinal County resident Staci Burk to find evidence of election fraud. Burk had sought access to ballots to prove that some were invalid or fraudulent. Earlier this year, the Arizona Supreme Court issued a ruling that agreed with a trial court judge in Pinal County that Burk lacked the right to contest the election. The reason given was that she wasn’t a registered voter at…

It’s not clear whether the website will be developed into a full-fledged social media website. Currently, it’s not possible to create user accounts or reply to Trump’s posts, and Trump is the only poster. “Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming,” reads Trump’s latest post.…
