NICOLA STURGEON claimed there are “hard times are ahead no matter what happens” as her independence dream was shattered over its funding. The leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) sent a warning to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for “picking a fight with the democratic wishes of the Scottish people” over a second independence referendum. She claimed another vote “is the will of the country” and reaffirmed that it is a “matter of when not if”. But the First Minister appears to face a huge problem – funding – and she previously admitted that her economic blueprint is now “completely out of…
Boris Johnson will give the go-ahead to the final lifting of restrictions in England on 19 July but tell the public: “The plan to restore our freedoms must come with a warning.” People will be urged to remain vigilant and be told they are “expected” to wear face masks in enclosed public places, despite the legal requirement being dropped. In a marked change of tone reflecting the fact that cases and hospital admissions are still rising, the Prime Minister will say on Monday the long-awaited end of the roadmap is “tantalisingly close” but warn that the “global pandemic is not over yet”.…

Riot police last night descended on London’s West End after thousands of football fans took to the streets following England’s nail-biting defeat against Italy for the Euro 2020 Championship. Scores of officers wearing riot gear and clutching shields were seen making their way along the streets of central London as large crowds attempted to push into the fan zone in Trafalgar Square without tickets. However as rain poured across the city, the fans dispersed in the early hours without major incident. Riot police had arrived in London’s Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square after football supporters were seen clambering onto street lamps and setting off flares…
The Pennsylvania agency in charge of elections has issued a new directive telling counties not to let outside parties access electronic voting systems or components of such systems, such as tabulators and ballot printers. The directive from the Pennsylvania Department of State, released on July 9, states that county boards of elections “shall not” provide any access to third parties that are seeking to examine the systems or system components. If the counties do allow access, the voting equipment that’s examined “will be considered no longer secure or reliable to use in subsequent elections,” and the department will withdraw its certification for the equipment.…
Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties to win the Euro 2020 final after the scores were tied 1-1 after extra-time. SOME things it seems even Gareth Southgate cannot change. Another brave England performance, another agonising night for the nation. The players were younger, less experienced but a much more relatable bunch than their predecessors, but still that was not enough. Jordan Pickford looked like being the hero, saving from Andrea Belotti and Jorginho to keep England in it after Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho missed. But Bukayo Saka – the embodiment of Southgate’s young England, saw his final kick saved…
THE EU could soon lose another member as Sweden is likely to leave the bloc in a few years, especially if Brexit Britain proves successful, a Swedish MEP has told Express.co.uk. Stefan Löfven, who was last week forced to resign as Prime Minister after clashing with allies over housing policy, has narrowly won a vote in Parliament to secure himself a swift return as Sweden’s leader. The Wednesday vote did not go smoothly, though. It was clear beforehand that a single lawmaker, either by mistake or deliberate rebellion, had the power to scupper Mr Löfven’s comeback, but in the end,…
Pastor Brian Gibson, who has been a target of cancel culture for resisting draconian lockdown measures as well as for exercising his First Amendment rights, has received hundreds of death threats. He and his family have experienced various forms of harassment. “Just for being a vocal proponent of the First Amendment, just for being someone that supported President Trump, and someone that spoke out actively, I received close to 1,500 death threats. People broke into my house, kicked my gate down, hacked all of our accounts,” Gibson said on EpochTV’s “Crossroads” program. “It’s amazing what they can do and how…
Wells Fargo said it will no longer be offering personal lines of credit and will shut down all existing personal lines of credit for customers, according to reports. The move doesn’t appear to affect credit cards. A spokesperson for Wells Fargo confirmed the development and said the decision to do away with personal lines of credit will allow the firm to focus on its credit card and personal loan services. “As we simplify our product offerings, we made the decision last year to no longer offer personal lines of credit as we feel we can better meet the borrowing needs of our customers…
Raheem Sterling was only starting out but Queens Park Rangers, who had signed him in 2005 just before his 11th birthday, knew what they had. According to Joe Gallen, the head of youth development at the time, it was something special. And so he would go out of his way to ensure that the young Sterling was as happy and comfortable as possible. Gallen, now the assistant manager at Leyton Orient, enjoyed chatting to Sterling in his office at the training ground in Harlington, sometimes just the two of them, other times with the protege’s mother, Nadine. He would ask…
