U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry on Monday denied allegations stemming from leaked audio that suggested he disclosed the number of Israeli attacks on Iranian targets to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. “I can tell you that this story and these allegations are unequivocally false. This never happened—either when I was Secretary of State or since,” Kerry wrote on Twitter. Kerry’s response was attached to a Twitter message by a Washington Post reporter who cited a State Department spokesperson saying that the Israeli attacks had already been disclosed by Israel itself. The Post reporter further shared a September 2018 Reuters story in which an Israeli official said that the…
Three wins from their final five games would guarantee the Foxes, who are third, a top-four spot. Brendan Rodgers praised Leicester’s desire after a crucial win over Crystal Palace kept their Champions League dream on track, and the manager hailed Kelechi Iheanacho whose 17th goal of the season – his 14th in his last 14 games – earned a battling 2-1 win after the Eagles gave the hosts a scare. Wilfried Zaha put Palace in front before Timothy Castagne and Iheanacho struck to move Leicester seven points clear of fifth-placed West Ham in the Premier League. Three wins from their final five games would guarantee the Foxes, who are…
BREXIT Britain received a stern threat by Spanish MEP Garcia Perez who claimed Brussels will ensure London will be “penalised” if it practices unfair competition on labour and environmental standards Addressing the European Parliament ahead of MEPs’ vote on the UK-EU Brexit agreement, the leader of the Social and Democrats group said Boris Johnson failed to keep his promises to Brexiteers as both Northern Ireland and Gibraltar remain effectively shackled to the EU. She also warned London will be punished unless it respects the rules of fair competition. She said: “The loss of a significant partner is no reason to celebrate but…
BRITONS have launched a furious attack against the European Union after a top eurocrat warned it will not move quickly to ensure the City of London has access to the EU’s financial services markets. The bloc’s commissioner for financial services Mairead McGuinness warned she is not under any pressure to accelerate talks with the UK to help the sector. EU ministers are still continuing to finalise the details of a recent memorandum of understanding for future regulatory cooperation – four months after Brexit when the UK cut all ties with the bloc. The agreement, which was negotiated separately from the…
NICOLA STURGEON’S Scottish Government has suffered a major blow in its hopes to rejoin the EU, as its fiscal deficit soars. New data from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) will be released this week, showing in 2020-21 the gap between public spending and tax revenues has risen to 22 to 25 percent of Scotland’s gross domestic product. It comes as a blow to the SNP’s hopes to rejoin the EU, as the deficit has hit eight times the acceptable limit set by the bloc, which is 3 percent of GDP. The EU has suspended its fiscal rules during the pandemic.…
Pep Guardiola urged his Manchester City side to channel the momentum from their Carabao Cup final win against Tottenham and seal “the most important title of the season” by winning their next two Premier League games. City ticked off one-third of a potential treble by deservedly winning at Wembley through Aymeric Laporte’s 82nd‑minute header, watched by 7,773 supporters in the biggest crowd to have attended a domestic game for more than 13 months. It was their fourth successive victory in this competition and they were given another boost by Manchester United’s goalless draw at Leeds earlier in the day, which means six points from…
CAR TAX changes introduced earlier this month will ensure those purchasing petrol and diesel models will “bear the brunt” of the updates with road users facing extra fees. The new tax bands for 2021 have seen traditional Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates rise for owners of polluting models. They said the new fees “only spare electric cars from any increase” with owners of petrol, diesel and hybrid models set to pay more. Price differences between the polluting and cleaner engines were already massive with drivers paying thousands of pounds more to own a vehicle with a combustion engine. Sepi Arani,…
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is allowing places of worship around the state to operate at maximum capacity, about a year after the state started limiting capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since last April, when the lockdowns were first initiated, there have been restrictions based on tiered guidelines for places of worship. “The change was made in light of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions that enjoin states from enforcing capacity limits on churches that are more restrictive than other entities like factories and schools,” Nora Meyers, the governor’s press secretary, said in a statement over the weekend. Schools in…
Public sector borrowing was more than £300billion in 2020/21, hitting a level not seen since the end of the Second World War, according to new official statistics which reveal the extent of the economic damage done by the Covid crisis. Data published by the Office for National Statistics this morning showed that net borrowing during the last financial year is estimated to have been £303.1billion. That is some £246.1billion more than was borrowed in the previous financial year. It is the highest number recorded for any financial year since records began back in 1947. Meanwhile, the data also showed public…
A group of Manchester United fans broke into the club’s Carrington training ground on Thursday morning. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly ‘disturbed’ by the angry supporters who broke into Manchester United’s training ground on Thursday – and he was forced to cancel the session as a result. A group of fans were seen blocking the main entrance to Carrington with their clear intent being to show their anger and frustration towards the Glazers. Banners read ‘Glazers out’ and ‘51% MUFC’ with around 20 fans breaching security at the training complex. They had even managed to get onto the training pitch with…
