BYD PRESENTS BUDGET EV TO EUROPE – The company plans to make cars in Hungary by year’s end
Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD’s low-cost Dolphin Surf became its 10th model available in Europe, with the Berlin launch increasing pressure on European rivals to produce more affordable alternatives.
The car will sell at three price points, from 22,990 euros for a 322-kilometre range, to 24,990 euros for a 507-kilometre range.
Until the end of June, the three versions will be available at a discounted price of 19,990-24,990 euros, according to sales chief Patrick Schulz.
German car industry analyst Stefan Bratzel predicted the new BYD will be “very successful because a 300 to 400 km range is something that is enough” for most consumers.
“It is clear that we need electric vehicles in these segments and if momentum is triggered here, even if it comes from China, it will actually be very helpful, incidentally also for the climate,” said Bratzel.
