CRIMEA FOOD SHORTAGES FUEL CRISIS REPORT – Reports from Crimea indicate shortages of some foodstuffs as fuel crisis worsens today

The Kremlin said on Monday (June 8) that ‘relevant authorities’ are working to avoid a deficit of food in Russian-held Crimea.

The fuel crisis in Russian-held Crimea and Sevastopol caused by Ukrainian drone strikes resulted in shortages of certain goods, including sugar, at select local food stores, according to social media and Telegram channels reports from the peninsula.

The residents and visitors of Sevastopol told reporters they did not see reason to worry, though some reported rationing of pasta in select stores.

Fuel rationing has been in place for more than a week now in Crimea. The Peninsula has been suffering from gasoline shortages after Ukrainian drone attacks hit supplies from adjoining Russian-controlled territory.

Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian-installed head of government in Crimea has urged residents to be patient and calm amid the gasoline shortages on the peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

After more than four years since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russia is facing almost daily Ukrainian attacks on its oil infrastructure while Western sanctions have made crude exports more costly.
