EU LEADERS BACK GAZA PEACE EFFORT AT SUMMIT – European Council President calls the summit a ‘Day of Hope’
European Council President Antonio Costa has called the Sharm el-Sheikh summit on Gaza “a day of hope for peace.”
Speaking on Monday, Costa said lasting peace would require continued international commitment and praised the summit for bringing leaders together behind a plan to end the war in Gaza and move toward a two-state solution.
He said the European Union is contributing through border control, police training, humanitarian aid, and financial support to the Palestinian Authority, to help rebuild and govern Gaza effectively.
Mediators Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey — alongside U.S. President Donald Trump — signed a document formalising the Gaza ceasefire deal during the summit, hosted in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
