EU WELCOMES GAZA PEACE PROPOSAL – Kallas says success depends on all sides honouring deal
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has cautiously welcomed a proposed agreement aimed at bringing peace to Gaza, describing it as “a constructive step” if it is fully implemented.
In a post on social media, Kallas said the success of the plan would depend on the full commitment of all parties. She added that verifying Hamas’ compliance would be a significant challenge and said Israel would ultimately need to withdraw from Gaza.
Kallas said the European Union stands ready to support the next phase of the peace process if the agreement moves forward.
The comments came after US President Donald Trump said his Board of Peace had reached an agreement for the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups. However, it remains unclear whether either Hamas or Israel has agreed to the proposal.
