GERMANY ANNOUNCES €65 MLN AID FOR GHANA -President Steinmeier made the pledge after talks with President John Mahama in Accra

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced that Berlin would provide €65 million in development assistance to Ghana to support renewable energy, industrialisation, and digital transformation projects.

Steinmeier made the pledge after talks with President John Mahama in Accra during a three-day state visit focused on trade, technology and regional security. The funds, which still require approval from the German parliament, will be channelled through Germany’s development cooperation framework.

Mahama said the two countries had identified “specific opportunities for stronger collaboration” in areas aligned with global sustainability goals, including green industrialisation and skills development. He also briefed Steinmeier on Ghana’s efforts to strengthen dialogue and stability in West Africa amid growing threats from terrorism and political unrest in the Sahel region.

Steinmeier said Ghana was a key partner in Germany’s engagement with the region and praised Accra’s role in promoting peace through ECOWAS. His visit includes meetings with Ghanaian officials, an inspection of a military guard of honour, and a state lunch hosted in his honour.
