ISRAEL APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF SHIN BET- Israeli PM Netanyahu says Major General David Zini is the right man for the job

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the government will appoint Major General David Zini as the new head of the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic intelligence service.

Speaking at the opening of the cabinet meeting and upon his return from Washington, Netanyahu said he was the right man for the job as “someone who knows the system, but is not in it.”

The Shin Bet, which handles counter-terrorism investigations, has been at the centre of a growing political battle pitting Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition government against an array of critics ranging from members of the security establishment to families of hostages in Gaza.
