META UNVEILS AI-POWERED SMART GLASSES – Meta’s $800 price tag on new glasses
Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new line of smart glasses, marking Meta’s latest push into the high-stakes AI race.
The new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses have a small screen in the right lens for basic tasks like notifications. They’ll start at $799 and hit stores on September 30th. However, the launch at Meta’s annual conference came with a few hitches, including some on-stage demos that did not go as planned.
The new devices come as Meta is racing to catch up with rivals like OpenAI and Google in advanced AI. The company has promised to spend tens of billions on AI technology and is facing scrutiny over its handling of child safety on its platforms.
Meta also announced a new pair of Oakley-branded glasses for athletes, along with an updated version of its original Ray-Ban line with improved battery life and camera features.
