NATO SAYS U.S TROOP CUTS WON’T WEAKEN EUROPE – Alliance insists defence plans remain secure despite planned withdrawal

NATO says planned reductions in U.S. troop numbers in Europe will not weaken the alliance’s defence posture across the region.

Speaking in Brussels on Tuesday, NATO’s top commander Alexus Grynkewich said the withdrawal of an American armoured brigade — around five thousand troops — would not undermine NATO’s military planning.

Grynkewich said European allies and Canada are increasingly taking greater responsibility for conventional defence in Europe, while the United States continues to provide critical strategic capabilities.

He described the shift as part of a longer-term adjustment that could continue over several years, as NATO seeks to strengthen its European pillar while maintaining American support within the alliance.
