ORBAN TO HOST U.S.-RUSSIA PEACE TALKS – Hungary prepares to host meeting between Putin and Trump to discuss ending Ukraine war
Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban says he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin later today, as Budapest begins preparations to host a potential peace meeting between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The talks, announced by Trump on Thursday, are expected to take place in Budapest within the next two weeks to find a path to end the war in Ukraine.
Orban — a long-time Trump ally who has maintained close ties with Moscow despite the ongoing conflict — said the talks would focus on peace, which he believes could mark the start of a new phase of economic development for Hungary and Europe.
The prime minister also urged European leaders to open their own diplomatic channels with Russia, once again accusing the European Union of taking what he called a “pro-war stance” over Ukraine.
If foreign ministers from the U.S. and Russia reach an agreement in upcoming discussions next week, the historic meeting could take place in Budapest before the end of the month.
