POLICE FACE £75K DIVERSITY JOB CRITICISM – Recruitment of equality staff sparks debate as crime levels rise and killing case reignites scrutiny

Police forces across the UK are facing growing criticism over the recruitment of senior diversity and equality officers on salaries of up to £75,000, at a time when concerns over rising crime remain high in several regions.

The debate has intensified following the killing of Henry Nowak, which has put renewed focus on how race-related policies and internal equality frameworks are shaping policing priorities.

According to reports, multiple forces have expanded their equality, diversity and inclusion teams in recent years, arguing the roles are essential for improving public trust, accountability and representation within policing.

However, critics say the funding should be redirected toward frontline policing, particularly as some areas continue to report increases in violent crime, antisocial behaviour and pressure on response times.
