POLICE INVESTIGATES LISBON CRASH -European leaders post condolences after Lisbon funicular crash
Police today started investigations into the funicular railway car in Lisbon where at least 15 people died and 18 were injured.
The Gloria funicular railway car, which is popular with tourists and is one of Lisbon’s symbols, derailed and crashed on Wednesday, as reported by an emergency medical service.
Authorities have reportedly said some foreign nationals were among the dead with five people gravely injured. The Gloria line transports around three million people annually, according to the town hall.
Its two cars, each capable of carrying around 40 people, are attached to opposite ends of a haulage cable with traction provided by electric motors on the two cars.Portugal’s government declared a day of national mourning today.
European leaders took to social media yesterday to express their condolences after the crash.
