POLICE PROBE JENRICK CAMPAIGN DONATION – Investigation follows Electoral Commission referral

Police have launched an investigation into a donation made to Robert Jenrick’s 2024 Conservative leadership campaign following a referral from the Electoral Commission.

The Metropolitan Police says the inquiry relates to donations connected to a political party leadership contest, after concerns were raised that part of a £37,500 donation may have originated overseas. Foreign donations to UK politicians are prohibited under electoral law.

Jenrick, who now sits as a Reform UK MP after defecting from the Conservatives earlier this year, has strongly denied any wrongdoing. He says the allegations are “entirely false” and insists he has not been contacted by the Metropolitan Police over the investigation.

The Electoral Commission had been examining donations made through Spott Fitness during the 2024 Conservative leadership race. The Metropolitan Police says its investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
