POPE QUESTIONS WHO CONTROLS AND PROGRAMS AI – For what purpose, says the Pope and says, technology must serve humanity, not replace it

Pope Francis has issued a stark warning on the rise of artificial intelligence, asking who truly controls it and for what ends. Speaking in Rome, he stressed that AI must remain a tool in human hands and must never replace people in areas of work, creativity or dignity.

The Pontiff urged global leaders to regulate emerging technologies to ensure they serve the common good rather than corporate profit or political manipulation.

His address reflected growing concern in the Vatican that rapid technological change is outpacing moral reflection.

He started his speech, though, by appealing to governments to act for the release of imprisoned journalists, calling free expression “the lifeblood of democracy.”  He also warned news outlets against “selling out” to sensationalism and clickbait, insisting that trust is the foundation of responsible journalism.
