REEVES FACES ETHICS PROBE ON BUDGET LIES – Inquiry launched into claims the chancellor misled MPs over budget figures amid outrage.

Rachel Reeves is facing a formal ethics inquiry after accusations that she misled parliament over key Budget figures.  The investigation follows mounting pressure from MPs who say the chancellor presented data she knew was flawed.

Opposition critics claim Reeves selectively used forecasts to paint a falsely positive economic outlook.

Her allies insist the accusations are politically motivated and deny any intent to mislead.

Ethics officials will now review internal Treasury documents and communications linked to her Budget speech.  The probe is expected to run for several weeks as investigators determine whether parliamentary rules were breached.

Reeves has said she will fully cooperate while maintaining that all Budget information was delivered in good faith.

The Chancellor on Sunday, November 30th,  denied she misled the public over official forecasts ahead of this month’s budget, saying she had been ‘really clear’ about the need to build up a bigger fiscal buffer.  The leader of the opposition called for her resignation.
